Cityworks Design created a First/Last Mile (FLM) Plan for 14 stations along the 9.5-mile East San Fernando Valley Transit Corridor (2018-2020) in collaboration with Metro Planning, Community Relations and KOA team. The plan aims to make Metro customers feel safe and eager to walk or bike to all ESFVTC light rail stations from the diverse neighborhoods that surround them. CWD’s planning and design work included data analysis, GIS info-graphics, facilitating stakeholder and technical walk audits, refinement of Metro’s web-based app, defining pathway networks, and developing project ideas and prioritization recommendations for a half-mile area around each station. Patricia Smith, ASLA, AICP, led the bike network analysis up to 3-miles out from each station. The design team collaborated with community-based organizations Pacoima Beautiful and Safe Moves to facilitate workshops focused on understanding the community’s priorities. A study was also prepared to address how the Metro Orange Line Bikeway could interface at the transfer point between the ESFV Van Nuys Station and Metro Orange Line Van Nuys Station.
