‘Moving Forward on First’ (First Street Multimodal Boulevard Study) will reimagine one of Santa Ana’s busiest 3-mile corridors as a safer, more accessible, and people-centered place that prioritizes pedestrian and bicycle safety while supporting everyday mobility. Cityworks Design is leading urban design concepts and developing pedestrian and bicycle design studies for the City of Santa Ana. The HDR-led team is developing options for the design of sidewalks, curb zones, bikeways, and intersections to create a multimodal street that improves safety and comfort for all users. CWD is also facilitating community engagement and has developed illustrative workshop materials, so public input can shape design concepts and support a long-term vision for First Street. The study is funded by the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG) Regional Early Action Planning (REAP 2.0) grant for planning and design of 30% Plans, Specifications, and Estimates (PS&E).
